Norwood, Mass.—Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) has introduced two new high-performance RF (radio frequency) passive mixers for a variety of wireless applications, such as cellular base station receivers, transmit observation receivers and radio link downconverters.

Operating in the 2300 to 2900 MHz frequency range, the single-channel ADL5353 mixer and the dual-channel ADL5354 mixer offer a high level of integration including an RF balun, LO (local oscillator) switch for dual LO frequency applications, LO driver and an integrated IF (intermediate frequency) amplifier. The balun integration enables the RF signal to be driven single-ended. The integrated IF amplifier provides the necessary gain, thereby eliminating the need for an external gain stage.

According to ADI, both the ADL5353 and ADL5354 provide best-in-class IP3 and noise figure performance.

LONDON — Foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) said its unconsolidated April sales were approximately NT$32.68 billion (about $1.04 billion), an increase of 6.0 percent over March 2010 and an increase of 50.3 percent over April 2009.

Unconsolidated revenues for January through April 2010 totaled NT$121.86 billion (about $3.87 billion), an increase of 105.5 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

The significance of developing an LED equivalent to the 60 watt has been recognized by many international organizations, including the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), who created the L-prize competition to spur development of this highly sought after innovation.

According to Provoost, Philips’ entry was the first, and to date remains the only submission for the L-Prize, which was used as the basis for the 12 watt EnduraLED. Exceeding the Energy Star specifications for a 60 watt bulb, the EnduraLED uses only 12 watts of power while delivering an industry benchmark of 806 lumens.

If Philips is successful in marketing its new alternative to the incandescent, it has a very good chance of grabbing a lion’s share of the market domestic incandescent light bulbs at least in the U.S. Every year more than 425 million 60-watt incandescent light bulbs are sold in the United States, representing approximately 50% of the domestic incandescent light bulb market.

For the year ended Jan. 1, 2010, net revenue was $611.4 million, a 21 percent decline compared with $769.7 million reported for fiscal 2008.
