DDC-I offers the interfaces and scheduling model of the Part 4 subset in two new variants of Deos, a DO-178B Level-A compliant embedded RTOS that addresses high robustness and formal certifiability for avionics and safety-critical applications.

Deos 653p4 provides an enhanced hybrid solution that offers the features of Deos—rate monotonic slack scheduling, interrupt-driven response, binary reuse, I/O middleware—in addition to support for the ARINC 653 Part 4 services and scheduling model. Deos 653p4-Solo provides only the ARINC 653 Part 4 services.

ARINC 653 defines an application/executive interface between an avionics computer's operating system and application software that simplifies software design, enhances portability and reuse, and reduces the cost of avionics software certification. Scheduled for ratification in Q1/Q2 2012, the Part 4 subset is designed to address systems that do not require the size, complexity, and features of integrated modular avionics systems. This brings the benefit of ARINC 653 compliance to more devices on airplanes, such as the majority of the line replaceable units (LRU) on next-generation aircraft.
